Aktion Mensch

For decades, Aktion Mensch has been committed to an inclusive society in which all people can participate independently. With its participation in Ehrentag 2026, it is setting an example for visible, diverse commitment.

Why Aktion Mensch is participating in Ehrentag volunteers’ day

For more than 60 years, Aktion Mensch has been working to ensure that people with disabilities, children, and young people have better opportunities to live self-determined lives. Its central goal is an inclusive society in which all people—regardless of disability, origin, age, or life situation—can live together and interact on an equal footing.

Inclusive engagement is an important building block on the way to achieving this. When people work together and support each other, they develop a mutual understanding and exchange ideas. Engagement connects people and creates the basis for social coexistence based on respect, solidarity, and diversity. Aktion Mensch wants to strengthen this attitude and encourage people to get involved, take responsibility, and actively shape their community.

The Ehrentag on May 23: Focus on civic engagement

The Ehrentag volunteers’ day is a nationwide event that gives civic engagement a visible platform. It invites people to try out what community action can achieve and shows how much joy, interaction, and personal development it can bring.

Around the Ehrentag, the German Foundation for Civic Engagement and Volunteer Work (DSEE) and Aktion Mensch are pursuing a common goal: to win over 1 million people for inclusive engagement. Both organizations share the conviction that a strong, sustainable society can only emerge if everyone truly has the opportunity to get involved and become visible.

Why Aktion Mensch is a partner

The cooperation with the DSEE strengthens the common goal of making volunteering accessible to all people. As a partner, Aktion Mensch contributes its many years of expertise in the field of inclusion and provides visible impetus:

  • Strengthening inclusion in volunteering: Together, the DSEE and Aktion Mensch want to break down barriers and show ways in which volunteering can become more accessible everywhere.
  • Nationwide participatory campaign: Together with DSEE, Aktion Mensch is calling for large-scale participation throughout Germany on the day of celebration.
  • Accessible engagement platform: Aktion Mensch’s accessible platform makes it easy for people to find opportunities, plan activities, and get involved locally. This makes the many activities surrounding the special day visible and accessible.

About Aktion Mensch

Aktion Mensch is the largest private funding organization in the social sector in Germany. Since its foundation in 1964, it has donated more than five billion euros to social projects. Aktion Mensch’s goal is to improve the living conditions of people with disabilities, children, and young people and to promote natural coexistence in society. With the proceeds from its lottery, Aktion Mensch supports up to 1,000 projects every month. This is made possible by around four million lottery participants. Its members include: ZDF, Arbeiterwohlfahrt, Caritas, the German Red Cross, Diakonie, Paritätischer Gesamtverband, and the Central Welfare Office of Jews in Germany. Rudi Cerne has been an honorary ambassador for Aktion Mensch since early 2014.
